Expedition: Frihet/Expedition: Freedom is a creative research project exploring the relationship between artforms, materials, the living earth, her ability to recover and rewind industrial landscapes. The setting of our sessions take place in locations once exploited by people for profit and we research how emotion, bodies and landscape meet in settings already reclaimed by water, vegetation, animals and weather.

The project established in 2013 by the performing art group Kollaborativet based in Malmö, Sweden, and was active until 2019. For now the project is dormant but will hopefully emerge again soon, just as vegetation sprouts and claims back post-industrial landscapes. Kollaborativet was a collective working with non-hierarchical organisation structures in a post dramatic tradition, where the theatrical expression is freed from a dramatic linear storytelling tradition and where the text is not the base but a theatrical brick among others; focusing on our relation to space, objects, one another and one self. Kollaborativet also had a focus on gender-, power- and democratic issues, which formed the group’s aim: to create a non-hierarchical platform for artistic discussions, research and design in the cross-road between performing and visual arts. Although Kollaborativet still carries these values, the collective is today an organisation adjusted to the creative frameworks of institutions, however, leading groundbreaking work with producing interactive performances for children with special needs. Please have a look at their work and reach out to them for collaborations on https://www.kollaborativet.se.

Expedition: Frihet/Expedition: Freedom is based on these criteria and visions that Kollaborativet originally was working from, thus an important standpoint in our project is to break away from hierarchical relations between artists within different art disciplines, we work together collaboratively between creatives and non-creatives alike. Our collaboration is based on equality where we, as creatives, share and uplift each other through our different knowledges and experiences. Our intention is to explore the borderline between performance, dance, theatre and photography, stimulating our meeting through the quest of freedom in relation to post-capitalism and the always ongoing force of the living earth.

Expedition: Frihet/Expedition: Freedom researches what freedom means in relation to site-specific natural and urban environments. The research is based on intuition and improvisation. Freedom is closely linked to the perception of restriction. The geography of a place, the weather, the changes of seasons and light become part the research and the expression of freedom. Similarly, the costumes can be part of the body-sculpture, or can contradict and restrict the movements. We capture life [through the lens], growth and recovery and relate it to our own relations to one another.

We believe that people can connect through art, especially through performance and photography which can bond anyone no matter background or language. We want to re-establishing a curiosity for the living, recovery and reclaiming of freedoms.
